Great Day!

Woo Hoo!!! Great day!!!!! FIRST, I got a free cleaning at the dentist this morning and THEN I had a mint oreo milkshake for breakfast as a reward for not having any cavities. NEXT, nobody yelled at me at work and I was able to send files out of my office. NEXT, I had a great study group for finance class. FINALLY, I got a ride home from school instead of taking the T. It's the little things that make a day great.

As for the icing on the cake...I leave for a weekend in DC tomorrow afternoon!! Don't worry, I'm bringing homework with me...

Yogurt!!!! fruit and egg and cheese sammy
 salad and butternut squash soup
penne arrabiata and salad from Trader Joes

Comfort eating

Good news!! No gastro-intestinal distress today...then again, I forgot to take my lunch time dose. Maybe that saved my "stomach" today. And a good thing too! It's that season at work when I'm chained to my desk answering phone calls and e-mails and processing paperwork. Basically, I spend my days responding to other people's urgencies...everyone desperately needs everything four days ago. It's called Not-November.

Anyway, I did take a sorta different eating tact today. I went with lots-o-veggies for lunch and then had a bunch of carbs for dinner. We'll see how it goes tomorrow when I remember to take all of my medication doses...I guess you can say that I tried to eat for comfort today!

Yogurt...for the prevention of unbearable itching...
roast pork, steamed broccoli, curried cauliflower and salad...ammunition!
 pizza and the missile?
Oh, Popcorn! How I've missed you!

I'm gonna go there...

As you know, I've started a course of amoxicillan to kill every last bit of strep in my throat...and that I'm expecting certain side effects. Well, one has reared it's ugly head already. It's pretty well known that taking antibiotics can cause certain amounts of lower gastro-intestinal distress. I mean, it makes sense. The antibiotics go in and kill all the bacteria, not just stuff making me sick. So it kills off all the bad stuff and all the good stuff too. Well, what I didn't know is that amoxicillan is amongst the worst offenders for this type of side effect!'s my dilemma, I like to eat alot of vegatbles. I like my fiber. By doing so now, am I helping to 'firm things up' so to speak, or am I just giving it more ammunition??

I swear, there's 3/4 of a cup of Uncle Sam cereal under all that fruit!
 left-over from the other night
I finally cooked for myself!!!! Chicken, couscous with onion and red pepper, zucchini and steamed broccoli

Yummm...fortunately, 1 pint did not equal one serving

breakfast of champions...notice the yogurt??
Buffalo salad a the Sail Loft...just imagine something similar for lunch.

Two salads today...see what I mean? Ammunition??

I still have my tonsils

Well, good news, there was no emergency tonsillectomy...just strep throat. As the doc said, it's treatable. SO. I'm on antibiotics for 10 days. I should have just asked for a vile of diflucan to go with the amoxycillan. Ah, well, the best I can do now is to keep up with my probiotics and eat plenty of yogurt. Gotta keep my gut-fauna in balance!! (Yeah, I went there...and if you don't get it, then you're very lucky.)

I am feeling better though, just getting a little cabin fever. I spent two whole days in bed and then a third not leaving the house. I just want to get out! I may or may not still be contagious. I felt so bad when I went to the doctor's that I didn't think to ask. As the link above suggests, I did take some time to look up my questions...I've been on antibiotics for over 48 hours, so I shouldn't be contagious anymore! I will, however, complete the full 10 day course of antibiotics. The bacteria that causes strep throat can also cause some nasty heart and kidney problems if allowed to linger unchecked.

You can imagine how excited I was yesterday when I could actually eat! I mean, I could eat before that, but it hurt a lot. Yesterday, I could actually eat!! Today should be even better...

french toast breakfast treat with Pepperidge Farm 15 grain bread and maple syrup from East Dorset,VT
Burger and fries from the pizza joint next door...not all that great
Shaw's brand Culinary Circle frozen pizza and greek salad from the pizza place next door

I did mention that I wasn't really able to eat solid food for two days, right?

Final UAE meals

I've been up since 4am with a fever and sore throat...what better thing to do than update my blog, right?

It's still too early to call my doctor. It's even still too early to call my boss and let him know that I won't make it into work for a second day. Did I say sore throat? What I meant to say is that it feels like someone's fist is in my throat...their fist is covered in sand paper and spikes. And they're twisting it around and around and around. Then, there's the fever. It went as high as 101.3. So, I spent yesterday writhing in muscle and joint ache agony and barely getting out of bed. When I woke up today, the fever was back at 101.1. Ugh. Ibuprofen is managing the fever, but not really doing anything to eliminate the pain. If it were just body aches, I could deal. The pain in my throat is unbearable! I even threw out most of my breakfast because it hurt too much to swallow...and I'm starving.

I love these enormous breakfast buffets!
a quick sandwich and fruit for lunch...poolside!
tea at the Emirates Palace Hotel
perfection in chocolate at the Emirates Palace Hotel
